Job Title: Legal Secretary

About the Job
Provide support and assistance to Workers Compensation attorneys in their day-to-day workflow and in the overall management of their cases. File and receive documents on WCAIS. Collect information from insurance companies and insureds. Obtain medical records, employment records, and wage information for attorney review. Communicate with medical providers to schedule appointments and request information. Log all hearings, depositions, and mediations on the department calendar. Monitor the progress of claims and obtain updated information from medical providers, employers, and/or judges’ offices. Prepare hearing documents and exhibits.
- At least one year legal secretary, paralegal, or other law firm administrative experience. Experience in Workers Compensation a plus but not required.
- Strong secretarial skills including typing, proofreading, MS Office, and transcription. Excellent communication, organization, and prioritization skills. Attentive to detail and highly accurate. Able to manage deadlines and multi-task, and easily adapt to changing priorities and last-minute requests. Strong commitment to quality client service.
Equipment, Physical/Mental Demands, Working Conditions
Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc.
Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate in person and via telephone with internal and external customers.
Able to deal with stress in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. Make decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas and technologies. Communicate and successfully interact with various personalities at all organizational levels.
Typical office setting, normally Monday through Friday business hours. Occasional overtime as required.
