Biography

James M. Leety is a Member in the firm’s Healthcare and Long-Term Care practice group in the Pittsburgh office.  Mr. Leety focuses his practice on defending doctors, hospitals, and long-term care health facilities in medical malpractice and liability matters.

Mr. Leety also represents product manufacturers, contractors, and premises owners in toxic tort liability matters.

Prior to joining Burns White, Mr. Leety was lead counsel defending products and premises liability, commercial trucking, professional liability and general commercial matters nationwide.

Mr. Leety received his Juris Doctor and John Gismondi Civil Litigation Certificate from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law, where he was the award recipient of the CALI Award for Litigation Strategy and Planning.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in History and Government from the University of Virginia.

Mr. Leety is licensed to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and State of West Virginia, as well as the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Pennsylvania and the Northern District of West Virginia.

Mr. Leety is a USA Hockey on-ice official, officiating games at the youth, interscholastic and college levels. He also coaches multiple youth hockey teams.
