Stephen L. Guzzetti
Stephen L. Guzzetti is an Member of the Litigation, Healthcare and Professional Liability practice groups at Burns White. An experienced attorney with a diverse practice, Mr. Guzzetti represents individuals and entities in a wide range of litigation and business matters. He focuses a majority of his practice on matters arising from the healthcare setting, including the defense of physicians, dentists, corporate practices, hospitals and other dental and healthcare professionals and entities in malpractice claims. Beyond the healthcare setting, Mr. Guzzetti has extensive experience representing lawyers, accountants and other professionals in professional liability claims, as well as individuals and entities in complex commercial litigation and personal injury matters. He has effectively handled all aspects of litigation, including jury trials, arbitration hearings, discovery, depositions, motions practice, mediation, and appellate matters.
Mr. Guzzetti brings a diverse background in civil and criminal litigation to his practice at Burns White. He previously worked at a healthcare defense firm, handling medical malpractice, healthcare law, and insurance defense matters. Mr. Guzzetti was also an Assistant Public Defender in Allegheny County, where he independently managed a substantial caseload from post-sentence motions to direct appeals. In addition, he held a judicial externship for Judge Joy Flowers Conti, U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania, and a judicial internship for Judge Kevin G. Sasinoski, Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County.
Mr. Guzzetti received a J.D. from Duquesne University School of Law. While there, he was selected by faculty to serve as a teaching and research assistant in the school of law’s nationally recognized Department of Legal Research and Writing. Mr. Guzzetti was also the founding secretary of the Appellate Moot Court Board, an associate editor of the Duquesne Business Law Journal and a member of the American Bar Association Arbitration Team at Duquesne Law. Additionally, Mr. Guzzetti received the Shalom Moot Court Award and was inducted into the Order of the Barristers for his outstanding performance in written and oral argument.
Mr. Guzzetti graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a member of the Gold Key Honor Society and studied Political Science, as well as Italian Cultural Studies in Florence, Italy for a semester.
