About the Job

The automobile insurance defense practice in our newly opened Tampa office is growing! This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who likes to take ownership and enjoys being part of a hard-working but fun team with a lot of camaraderie.

This position requires a self-starter who can anticipate next steps and follow through with good judgment. The person hired for the role will assist with general case management, prepare and organize documents, review and summarize medical records, and provide trial support. The person in this position will also have client interaction and deal extensively with expert witnesses.

Job Requirements

  • Paralegal Certificate, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Experience as an insurance defense or other personal injury litigation (medical malpractice, products, etc.) strongly preferred in a paralegal, legal assistant, or legal secretarial role. Experience with medical records and expert witnesses also strongly preferred.
  • Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast-paced environment is a must. Strong organization, prioritization and multi-tasking skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary. Must have the ability to establish rapport and interact effectively with clients, experts, opposing counsel, adjusters, and others. Proven ability to meet deadlines and prepare accurate work with a high degree of attention to detail. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. Reliability and flexibility are necessary skills, as is a commitment to providing excellent client service. Strong PC skills, especially MS Office Suite. Experience of understanding of timekeeping/billing.

Equipment, Physical/Mental Demands, Working Conditions

Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc.

Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate in person and via telephone with internal and external customers.

Able to deal with stress in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. Make decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas and technologies. Communicate and successfully interact with various personalities at all organizational levels.
