Biography
Joseph D. Zottola is an Associate in Burns White’s Pittsburgh office. Mr. Zottola focuses his practice on Healthcare and Long-Term Care law, defending doctors, hospitals, and long-term care health facilities in medical malpractice and liability matters.
Prior to joining Burns White, Mr. Zottola was an attorney in the United States Marine Corps. While on active duty, he served as a staff attorney for 1st Marine Division, victims’ legal counsel (VLC), and prosecutor. While at 1st Marine Division, he supervised, managed and advised on military criminal justice matters. He also advised the Commanding General and subordinate organizations on matters including civil law, administrative law, legal assistance, ethics, investigation, and operational law. As a VLC, he represented Marines, their dependents, and civilians who were victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, and other crimes, protecting and advocating their rights throughout the military justice process. As a prosecutor, he handled cases involving drugs, fraud, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other military-related crimes.
Mr. Zottola received his Juris Doctor from the Duquesne University School of Law, where he was a writer for the Energy & Environmental Law Journal. During law school, he participated in the study abroad program in China, studying energy, environmental, and intellectual property law. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, with a minor in Business Administration, from Washington & Jefferson College.
Mr. Zottola is admitted to practice law in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
