Staff Attorney – Various Locations

Jun 6, 2025 | Available Attorney Positions

What’s different about this role?

A traditional law firm associate position is not the right fit for every lawyer or at every point of a lawyer’s career. We also recognize that people have varied needs, interests, skills, preferences, and personal situations that can influence their employment choices and career goals. Our staff attorney positions offer alternative arrangements for lawyers who want to contribute and have a fulfilling career, but without the demands of the partner track. If your life situation or personal priorities require you to shift your work/life balance more toward family, community, or other obligations, a staff attorney position at Burns White could an ideal option.

What kind of flexibility is offered?

A lot! Staff attorneys can:

  • Have full-time or part-time schedules
  • Work onsite, hybrid, or remote
  • Maintain consistent, predictable work hours
  • Keep traditional or non-traditional hours
  • Be salaried or hourly

What does (and doesn’t) a staff attorney do at Burns White?

Staff attorneys work directly with partners and associates on assignments including writing, research, review, analysis, discovery, compliance, projects, and providing procedural information. Staff attorneys have modified (and pro-rated for part-time) billable hours targets, are not responsible for managing client relationships, and have no requirements related to business development.

Are benefits offered?

Yes! All employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in BW’s benefits programs which include:

  • Medical, dental, vision, life, disability, pet, and other insurance coverages
  • Up to 24 PTO days and 10 holidays annually
  • Paid parental leave based on tenure
  • 401(k) after six months of employment
  • Free, confidential counseling and support services to employees and family members
  • Medical flexible spending account and health savings account
  • Financial, retirement, and Medicare planning services

Reflecting its commitment to inclusion, Burns White offers benefits to domestic partners.

How does the firm support staff attorneys’ professional growth?

Staff attorneys can gain experience across any of our 30 different practice areas. Costs for continuing legal education and maintaining licensures are reimbursed, as are costs associated with securing additional state licensures. In addition, as situations change, so might your career objectives – staff attorneys who become interested in a traditional associate role receive priority consideration for open positions.
