Edward J. Carbone
Biography
Edward J. Carbone is a Member of the firm’s Tampa, Florida office. Mr. Carbone focuses his practice in the areas of medical malpractice defense, healthcare law, and insurance defense litigation. In his 25-year career, he has represented all types of healthcare facilities and providers, including hospitals, physicians, nurses, behavioral health organizations, hospices, and long-term care facilities. He is also a Florida Supreme Court Certified Arbitrator.
Mr. Carbone has helped his clients resolve countless disputes through litigation and arbitration. He has taken numerous cases to trial, and has handled appeals in both state and federal appellate courts. Though he has handled matters involving all aspects of healthcare, he has particular experience handling obstetrical injury claims, including disputes over the application of Florida’s Neurological Injury Compensation Association (NICA).
Mr. Carbone is frequently invited to speak to legal, healthcare, and insurance professionals on a wide range of topics relating to medical malpractice, healthcare risk management, and medical privacy. He was also appointed as an adjunct professor at Florida State University College of Law, where he co-developed and co-taught a class in Risk Management, Patient Safety, and Quality Improvement.
Mr. Carbone has an AV-Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell’s peer review rating system, which represents the highest level of professional excellence for ethical standards and legal ability. He has also been named a Florida Super Lawyer and is listed in Best Lawyers in America. He has served as the President of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association. He is a member of the Florida Society for Healthcare Risk Management and Patient Safety and served as Co-Chair of its Advocacy Committee.
Mr. Carbone received his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, in political science from Boston College. He received his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School, where he was recognized for excellence in advocacy as part of a team representing the school at the Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.
