Our Workers’ Compensation Practice Group provides legal consultation and risk management services to a wide variety of industries. This growing team represents insurance companies and self-insured corporations before workers compensation judges, the Workers Compensation Appeal Board, and the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania. Client support is also provided related to the Federal Coal Mine Health & Safety Act and the Black Lung Benefits Act.
What you’ll do…
- Work independently to complete the Workers Comp workflow, determine priorities, and manage time to ensure deadlines are met
- Prepare and process documents and filings
- Keep track of deadlines and proactively provide reminders to attorneys
- Learn, understand, and effectively utilize the WCAIS system for entering appearances, answering petitions, etc.
- Serve as a point of contact and provide customer service to clients, opposing counsel, and other internal and external contacts
- Coordinate workflow to/from the Production Center, ensuring work is completed within deadlines and according to team and attorney specifications
- Calendar, schedule, and maintain filing systems in accordance with team and firm standards
- Actively participate in team meetings by providing updates, deadline reminders, and suggestions for improving processes and client service
- Demonstrate flexibility and teamwork by pitching in with others when needed to ensure client service and attorney support
- Enter billable time (this position is about 50% billable)
Ideal candidates have…
- At least one year of experience in a legal assistant, legal secretary, paralegal, case assistant, or other legal support role
- Workers Compensation experience a plus
- Strong technical skills including MS Office and document management systems
- Experience with time entry and/or the PA WCAIS system beneficial
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload, and prioritize tasks with competing deadlines
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Professional manner with clients, attorneys, and others
- Ability to work within deadlines, shift gears in relation to changing priorities, and handle the pressure of deadlines
Equipment, Physical/Mental Demands, Working Conditions
Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc. Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate with clients in person and via telephone. Able to deal with stress in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. Make decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas and technologies. Communicate and successfully interact with various personalities at all organizational levels. Typical office setting, normally Monday through Friday business hours. Occasional overtime as required.
