Burns White is looking for a real estate paralegal to join its team in its Pittsburgh (Strip District) office. The paralegal will work in partnership with attorneys and other paralegals with a focus on real estate closing matters. This position offers opportunities to demonstrate leadership and work with autonomy in a team-oriented environment.
Essential Functions
- Prepare new file creations
- Prepare buyer introduction letters and other correspondence
- Order title search or title insurance, as applicable
- Collect tax certifications
- Contact townships to gather lien/no-lien information
- Prepare deeds and Exhibit A descriptions
- Prepare documents for closings
- Communicate with loan officers, closing companies, and other attorneys
- Serve as client point of contact
- Gather pre-bill information for upcoming closings
- Prepare deposits and deliver to bank
- Process money transfers into Escrow
- Record deeds and mortgages at the courthouse
- Hand deliver documents to other legal offices
- Various other administrative and recordkeeping activities
Job Requirements:
- Paralegal Certificate or Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
- 2 or more years’ experience
- Experience with e-Closing software, Excel and QuickBooks
- Experience with title searches, tax certifications, recording deeds and document preparation for closings
- Highly organized and able to prioritize workload with attention to detail and highly accurate
- Able to work independently and as part of a team with strong communication, interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Strong PC skills, especially MS Word and Excel.
Equipment, Physical/Mental Demands, Working Conditions
Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, typewriter, calculator, fax machine, duplicating machine, etc.
Sitting for extended periods, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines. Range of hearing and vision sufficient to operate standard office machines and communicate with clients in person and via telephone.
Able to deal with stress in a fast-paced work environment with multiple priorities. Make decisions and adapt to changing work situations. Grasp and apply new ideas and technologies. Communicate and successfully interact with various personalities at all organizational levels.
Typical office setting, normally Monday through Friday business hours. Occasional overtime as required.
